Yeah my friend is always saying it is amazing but it has an uber-steep learning curve.

I got used to it quickly on the DS

Yeah, but this has a steeper learning curve than that. Like 4x. I suppose it would be easier if you played the DS/GBA versions at all, though, as they share some mechanics.
